Safeguarding
PARISH of OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL, KENSINGTON
S A F E G U A R D I N G
Our parish is committed to the care of all our parishioners. In particular the integrity, welfare and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults are matters of concern and vigilance. All appropriate steps are taken to maintain a safe environment for all and to practice fully and positively Christ’s Ministry towards children, young people and vulnerable adults and to respond sensitively and compassionately to their needs in order to help keep them safe from harm.
Catechists are required to obtain a Disclosure Certificate (DBS certification). Regular activities or working with or instructing children is carried out in adherence to the guidelines of the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS) based on the Children’s’ Acts of 1989 and 2004 and the acceptable minimum ratio of adult to child/young person. For catechism classes there are always at least two adults one of whom is female. For each group there is one lead Catechist holding a DBS certificate and at least one other adult. A child is anyone who has not reached their 18th birthday.
The Church recognises the personal dignity and rights of all vulnerable people towards whom it has a special responsibility. The Church authorities will liaise closely with statutory agencies to ensure that any allegations of abuse are promptly and properly investigated and survivors appropriately supported and perpetrators held to account.
