BEING A CATHOLIC
Becoming a Catholic
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which interested adults are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic faith and if they so wish culminating in their reception into community of the Catholic Church.
It includes several stages marked by study, prayer and the liturgy of the Mass.
Participants in the RCIA are known as catechumens. They undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess their faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
With continual help and support from sponsors and the whole community, the new members are encouraged to take a full part in the life of the Church.
